Regards top gear in Alabama

James has wrote about that alabama happening in the US special. I watched it on tv rather than the clips running around the web. Scary stuff. Doesn’t help America’s image abroad. That was all a bit too far really.

It was one of the best episodes in a long time. They have come along way since it was just a collection of car reviews, it’s now more of a Zoo/Nuts magazine on TV. Long may it last!

On the American image thing, I think they did make it clear these were ‘Southerners’. Most people would have realised that they are a complexity different breed of American (mainly no sense of Humour).

Top Gear is a really good show! There..I’ve said something I never thought I would.I really loved this episode and while there’s plenty of opinions rocketing around on it I just have to say something somewhat boring here.

    Alabama is not America.

I’ve spent the last 12 years living in a very conservative southern state and have experienced zero hassle despite really challenging some deeply held beliefs in a very public way. It’s only back home in Limerick that my life is threatened.

Cheap shot? maybe it is but that does not make it any less of a fact.Nor would it be difficult for someone to do a similar show in Belfast,Birmingham (UK AND Alabama’s) or London. If you go looking for trouble you are very likely to find it.

Having said that Alabama is a festering cess pit of a state and needs to sink back into the swamp along with the bigots, racists, homophobes and god bothering nazis that infest the place.Blech.
